FAQ: INGREDIENTS

What type of wax do you use?

A proprietary blend of all natural coconut oil and natural vegetable ingredients to solidify the oil for candle making without the use chemical hardeners. My custom vegan, cruelty free wax formula does not contain any soy, palm, paraffin, or genetically modified ingredients, and it upholds the highest standards of environmental responsibility.

Are EcoDeux Candles considered vegan and cruelty free?

Yes! I've always been committed to using non-toxic ingredients that have been ethically sourced. I only purchase supplies with companies who adhere to a strict no animal testing policy and are certified to be ethically sourced and cruelty-free. All aroma blends are certified with:

No Carcinogens

No GMO's or Gluten

No Parabens

No PFAs or PEGs

No Petrochemicals

No Phthalates

No Prop 65 Ingredients

No Mutagens, reproductive, organ or acute toxins

Is there colorant in the wax?

No, the wax color is naturally derived from the infused essential oils and botanical ingredients.

Why does the wax color change after being burned?

This occurs naturally as the wax and essential oils are heated by the flame. Most commercial candles have a chemical stabilizer to maintain the original wax color. I prefer not to add chemicals just for appearance sake and consider this candle blend like a recipe that "bakes" when lit.

How strong is the scent?

It is fragrant without being overwhelming. I do not use toxic chemical scent boosters that commerical candles have to give that immediate "wow" factor but later gives that "pow" factor of causing a headache. The TERRE candle will radiate a soothing aroma and fill up to a 16 x 22 ft room. If you are burning this candle in a larger space or in a room with high ceilings, I suggest burning two while keeping them spaced out.

WOOD WICKS: CARE & FAQ's:

Are the wood wicks FSC?

Absolutely! They are made from wood sourced from mills that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). FSC is an international non-profit organization that was founded in 1993 to promote responsible forestry. FSC certified wicks are considered a more eco-friendly alternative to cotton wicks because the production of cotton is very water and pesticide intensive.

Get the most out of your scent journey with a little TLC in mind:

T - Time and Tunneling. At the first lighting plan to burn your candle for 2.5-to 3 hours. Most blends will liquify the entire surface during this time while others may not. Don't worry if the candle appears to be tunneling, after a few more lightings it will burn all the way to the edge and you won't have any wasted wax left on the sides.

L - Length and Let Down. Candles arrive with the wick trimmed & ready to be lit. Upon lighting, the wick flame will burn high for approximately 30-60 seconds and then “let down” to a low burning, ember glowing, flame. It may look as if it will burn out, but it won't. The design of this low burning flame wick was intentionally curated for safety.

C - Crackle and Care. Our wood wicks produce a soothing crackle sound. It is a gentle reminder you have a candle lit. Upon the 2nd lighting and after; you won't ever need to trim the wick but do use a tissue to remove any burnt ash before re-lighting.

I hear sounds and see something emitting from the wick as it burns is normal?

Yes! Crackling wicks are made through a special process of trapping air and moisture in the natural wood fibers. When ignited, the air is released to create that crackle sound and the heat causes the moisture to be released which is the swirling vapor you may see when the wick is lit.  This is not soot, it is moisture vapors.

The wick looks like it's going to burn out is this normal?

Yes! After an entire year of relentless testing I have created an extraordinary "smart wick" system that burns extremely low for the first 2-3 lightings yet still emits amazing fragrance. This low burning, ember glowing, wick system was intentionally curated to reduce fires. During the first few lightings the wick flame will burn out if even the slightest draft is near it and while to wick flame is above the vessel it won't burn with a high flame to limit it accidentally catching anything near it on fire. After it has burned a few times and the wax level is reducing down the vessel, the wick flame will become larger and stay at a safe height lower than the vessels height.

My candle won't stay lit, what can I do?

Firstly, be sure it isn't in the path of any draft.  The wick is intended to burn very low and the slightest draft will blow it out.  This is for safety purposes. Secondly, the wick arrives trimmed very low but if you trimmed it again it may have been trimmed too low. You can use a spoon and take a very small and even amount out of wax off the surface and re-light.

How can I extinguish the flame without blowing it out and causing smoke?

You can use a candle snuffer with our wood wicks. There are many affordable options online and on amazon. Never use the lid to extinguish the flame.

FAQ: VESSELS

How can I prevent getting burned from the vessel?

The candle flame will cause the glass to become hot. The glass was made to withstand heat but it could burn you if touched before it cools down. Let the melted wax fully solidify again before touching or moving the candle.

How can I prevent spilling the melted wax in the vessel?

Let the melted wax fully solidify again before touching or moving the candle.

Why is there a little wax left in the bottom of the glass?

The custom wick clips I use are designed to keep the flame at a safe height above the vessel base to prevent breakage due to overheating. There will be a small amount of wax leftover due to this design but it is easy to remove so you can repurpose the vessel.

How can I repurpose the glass?

As mentioned above, a small amount of wax will remain in the vessel. DO NOT attempt to melt the leftover wax in the microwave as the wick clip is metal.  Heat the oven to 180 degrees f or the lowest setting, line a cookie sheet with tin foil and place the vessel on it and in the oven for 10-15 mins. Carefully remove from the oven (using a heat resistant pot holders or mitts), place on a heat resistant surface, place paper towels down in the vessel to soak up any remaining wax being mindful that the glass and wax will be hot. Use another paper towel to fully wipe out any wax residue as you don't want it to get in your sink. Next, you can use a spoon to gently remove the wick clip. Lastly, gently hand wash the vessel with soap and hot water. Do not put the glass in a dishwater as the paint will chip off. Once cleaned you have a reusable glass for a pen/pencil cup, makeup brushes, plant starter, or trinkets. Kindly note the paint may chip during cleaning but it can be repainted.

Our all natural, sustainable, coconut wax is soft because it doesn't contain any chemical hardeners in it. It was specifically chosen for its purity and because it allows the melt pool to form quickly to release the aroma sooner. Natural coconut wax can and will melt if left in a hot car or if left outside in hot temperatures for too long. If melting occurs, place it in the refrigerator for a couple of minutes and it will reset and the burning qualities will not be affected. This will not happen during regular shipments.

in mind to assure consistency from the first to the last lighting. Each candle blend burns clean and slow releasing intriguing aromas that awaken your senses as the sounds of the wood wicks soothe your soul.

I am in love with scent, it is so intriguing to me. Scent is one of our strongest senses. It can redirect your mind from a negative to a positive state. Whether it be from a person or place; scent can engrave a moment in your mind. When evoking that scent one can mentally be transported in time.

The creation history... As an Ohio State LMT I opened a mothers spa Mama & Me Photography Spa in 2002.  As part of my continuing education, I studied the art & science of aromatherapy & the synergistic way essential oils work together. I would custom blend aromas for clients during their massage appts and those blends eventually became candles. My candles have had many forms in the last 20 years. But I have learned trends come and go. Today, I don't follow trends. I purposefully create each candle with mindful intention. Each proprietary aroma has been meticulously measured, to the gram, for consistency. They are individually hand blended at the time of your order and not a moment before. I find candle making therapeutic. Every candle I blend is done so with a pure heart, clear mind, and for the purpose of giving you an aromatic embrace with each lighting.

The Name History... I'm often asked "Why did you pick the name Eco Deux Candles?" "Eco" is for the purity in the ingredients and "Deux" was chosen for my love the French Lifestyle and my epic second try's in life!

The Noir Base... I'm often asked "Why black candles?" and the reason is; it's my favorite color but more importantly it's a gentle reminder that light will still shine out of darkness.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. It is my sincere intention that my eco candles will awaken your senses and soothe your soul.

Before you go take this with you...

Never let anyone dim your light, Shine on!
